Well, as far as quizzes go, i guess it works.

But you're making it too difficult for people who don't listen to classical music frequently to answer correctly. The Answers should come as buttons, with multiple choices, except for an open-ended answer that might be wrong if i don't write the artist's name correctly (i wrote "wagner" without a capital W and didn't get the score because of that, see where i'm getting to?), it makes taking the quiz extremely time consuming and boring.

Next, try adding a bit more eye candy to the flash, if the quiz is about classical music, i don't understand why there's a background more suited to techno of the 80's and a black font that honestly clashes horrible with the background. Its legible, yes, but not pleasant to look at.

All in all, it just needs polishing. Also, try adding correct answers written by yourself with a short explanation of why, when and where, like when did X artist compose it with a bit of trivia, instead of "it was him did you get it right?".

Offer us something that we haven't seen before. :)

Gerontius responds:

Erm. You mark it yourself? It doesn't auto-mark.

Multiple choice would be too easy. They're all well know pieces.

You just copied this from a tutorial.

You could have at least made new graphics instead of copying everything from the tutorial you made this with. (i know about it, is quite old)
Also, even copypasting the code you did it wrong, i ate a lot of yellow balls but the counter at the end said 0, care to explain why is this?

crayzrocker responds:

because i changed 99% of the code you dumbass!

First flash huh?

First question, you say it's your first attempt at flash, but YOU made this from scratch? Because i've seen that preloader style, and advertisements, and overall highscore system to be used in a game engine found online, if you used one of those then this is not a flash made entirely by you since the webpage already did most of the job for you. (This doesn't mean is not a great game, i actually liked it a lot!)

Please do tell me more information about the engine so i don't go labelling people here and there.

Now, if you did make this yourself from scratch then i must give you a warm applause, first movies/games to newgrounds should all be great like this one, nice use of the car movement AS and glow filter, is simple, to the point and difficult enhough to make me try it various times.

A bit of sound wouldn't hurt, but then again it didn't bother me that it was a mute game.

fp123 responds:

Hey, thanks for the rating and good review :)

The Advertisments and the Leaderboard were added using MochiAds, they pretty much dominate flash-based advertising as far as I can tell. The rest of it I made myself from scratch though - I've made games using GameMaker before, so I know the basic theory behind it. Flash AS still feels pretty alien to me, though. I was considering adding sound, but why have sound if it's going to be larger than the game itself? :P

Not bad, in fact... I liked it!

Even when it's just a small minigame it kept me interested enhough to plaay it a couple of times. It could have been better though, you had the gameplay and the interface, but you lacked a couple of things:

1) More fps (frame per second) rate. Seems you used something between 20/25, if you used 30 - 40 it would have been smoother for the purpose of the flash.
2) Better graphics. The pointer was good enhough, but a simple change in the code would have provided different targets and scores. Also, a better interface talking about graphics would have been better.

Overall, this deserved a good score.

FozT responds:

I don't know alot about setting the fps for different game types and such, but this is set to 15 i think.
Yes, better graphics would have been a bonus and would have given it a nicer look, but nothing perfect i guess..
And as i have said on below comments, maybe i will make a more advanced version, with different targets and such.

Thanks for the comment!

Yeah um...

It DOES have a lot of bugs, you shouldn't have uploaded it yet because of them.
I will list them to you so you can fix them and upload it when it's completed.

1) Only one direction, link starts facing left and it stucks there, not being able to look other places.
2) Movement bug, you can go out of the screen.
3)Life bug, once you touch an enemy the lives starts running out at the speed of light instead of just removing one per each enemy.

You have potential, just work harder and do not submit it if it has too many bugs.

razzy07 responds:

Yeah,I should'nt have uploaded it yet.
Thanks. =]

My review:

So like, the scarf is the weapon huh? that's innovative and fun.
You get 7 out of ten because:

- Sounds 0/1
- Music 0/1
- Story 0/1
- Originality 1/1
- Preloader 1/1 <- (even though i didn't see it, it loaded just fine, i suppose is for the filesize)
- Actionscript structure 5/5
About the last one, i'd like to comment something: I loved how you made it so that, if you kept the jump button pressed, the character won't keep jumping against the consent of the user.

Overall, nice job. It would be nice if you told us the AS you used for the jump.

Keilious responds:

Thanks muchly! :D

I'll be posting up some AS tutorials related to this project on my site over the next couple of weeks, I suspect. But if you're in a hurry to know, basically a check is set to true when the player presses the key down, and only returned to its default false when the player releases the key.

Good, but boring

Well made but shabby looking, it does sound like a war field, but then it grabs rithm and sounds more like a song more than a war field.

neck-twister responds:

lol! your actually right^^

Flash is delicious. You must agree! Have you tried such a thing? Have you? Is quite good, GOOD!
